This is a beautiful tribute and got me a bit choked up. I always loved this haunting piece. My daughter and I visited Paris last year and placed flame orange roses on Jim's grave at Pere Lachaise on 10/9/2013. That morning when we woke, Paris was enshrouded in a thick damp fog. I had hoped it would rain the day we visited Pere Lachaise as Paris is especially beautiful in the rain and Pere Lachaise is a mystical place. We took the Metro from Montmartre to Pere Lachaise mid-morning and wandered down its cobblestoned paths through the fog for over an hour before we came to Jim's grave. As if on cue, the fog turned to rain the very moment we placed our roses on his grave (we have a video of this). The rain happened so suddenly it was bizarre and a bit spooky. We stood under an umbrella for 20 minutes paying our respects, and my daughter and I took turns holding the umbrella while we picked up handfuls of chestnuts from Jim's grave to take home. I keep the chestnuts I gathered in a beautiful bowl and they are my most precious mementos of Paris. Someday my ashes will be scattered beneath the towering ancient chestnut trees in this hauntingly beautiful and mystical place.
