At the end of the day, songs are open to individual interpretations. For me, though, Absence of Fear is basically about an all-consuming forbidden love and an intense longing brought upon by separation. Its nature is open to interpretation - social class, wealth, religion, gender - who can tell? But it speaks of courageously overcoming one's fears and doubts, and in the process, letting go and submitting completely to that love. In my mind, this is the ultimate ode to love.
