Might be one of the most profound and prophetic works that I've ever heard. Amazing how the message hasn't changed and still holds true after all these years. How big a Billboard do the powers that be need?

You're going to have a hard time proving you aren't deluded about all that Godspeak stuff, but I'm sure it works for you. As long as you don't start any wars over it, we're cool.

I have to disagree with you. Music is a way that God speaks to us, through our brothers and sisters. Mathematics is another way He speaks. Music is honest, and math doesn't lie. No music can be all things to all people but all people can have some music that reaches them. All music is created by us, and all acts of creation are acts of love, and all acts of love are acts of God. Let us not forget that we are divine beings, as Jesus says, "Our Father"...Peace, everyone. Love each other.

As I used to say when I lived in California, "There's nothing wrong with this place that couldn't be fixed by getting rid of about half of the people." It's a mistake to look to musicians for wisdom, advice, or guidance, as if they were more capable of providing them than dedicated professionals, or your own common sense for that matter. Even if the musician is someone is as bright, and has as interesting a perspective, as Ian Anderson. Still, it's quite the profound--and listenable--tune.

I think this song is about the problem of overpopulation in the first place. Ian Anderson has said in alot of interviews that overpopulation is the world's most pressing concern and that alot of his work should be understood as raising awareness about this problem. That being said, I don't think the merits of Jethro Tull's music should be sought in it's political or social contribution, but that's just my two cents.

There's the stillness of death on a deathly unliving sea, And the motor car magical world long since ceased to be, When the Eve-bitten apple returned to destroy the tree. Incestuous ancestry's charabanc ride, Spawning new millions throws the world on it's side. Supporting their far-flung illusion, the national curse, And those with no sandwiches please get off the bus. The excrement bubbles, The century's slime decays And the brainwashing government lackeys Would have us say It's under control and we'll soon be on our way To a grand year for babies and quiz panel games Of the hot hungry millions you'll be sure to remain. The natural resources are dwindling and no one grows old, And those with no homes to go to, please dig yourself holes. We wandered through quiet lands, felt the first breath of snow. Searched for the last pigeon, slate grey I've been told. Stumbled on a daffodil which she crushed in the rush, heard it sigh, And left it to die. At once felt remorse and were touched by the loss of our own, Held it's poor broken head in her hands, Dropped soft tears in the snow, And it's only the taking that makes you what you are. Wond'ring aloud will a son one day be born To share in our infancy In the child's path we've worn. In the aging seclusion of this earth that our birth did surprise We'll open his eyes... ...........:)O(:...........

The original environmental awareness song, done without preaching--just a matter of fact love of the natural world. Draw your own conclusions. No need to lead you anywhere.

This song is an amazing adaptation from 'Wondering aloud', becoming a beautiful trilogy... out on the Living in the Past album. Ian near his zenith..

i was lucky enough to had seen him more than a few times. it was the time he did his bursting out tour. i missed the first one here but he came back not too long after with the same tour? it was awesome and the beast and broadsword tour i particularly enjoyed. the musicianship he had on stage was extraordinary, always. like zappa, if you werent the best around you didnt get in to his band.
