I'be been playing guitar since 1991 and Salamander is by-far the most complex bard-song I've ever known or played.

The dancer is Cherry Gillespie, ex Pans People TOTP star and teenage fantasy. She and the other dancers from that troupe had played with Tull at the Rainbow in Nov`74. Cherry became good mates with Shona Learoyd ( Anderson) and sang b/v on a Tull single `Stitch in time` Sept `78.

John Glascock (2 May 1951 – 17 November 1979) was the bass guitarist, backing vocalist, and occasional lead vocalist for the progressive rock band Carmen. He was also the bass guitarist and backing vocalist for the progressive rock band Jethro Tull from December 1975 until August 1979. He died in 1979, at the age of 28, as a result of a congenital heart valve defect, which was worsened by an infection caused by an abscessed tooth. In a September 1978 'Guitar Player' interview, Ritchie Blackmore had said "...John Glascock is a brilliant bass player, the best in the business in rock."Glascock then joined Jethro Tull in 1976, after having met Ian Anderson when Carmen opened several dates for Jethro Tull on their War Child tour. Martin Barre said in the "Classic Artists Series" documentary, that his love for the band was unique, being a fan of Jethro Tull playing in the band. He played on the Jethro Tull albums Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die! (1976), Songs from the Wood (1977), Heavy Horses (1978), Live - Bursting Out (1978), and on three tracks on Stormwatch (1979). In Jethro Tull he received no writing credits but sang backing vocals, and became the first harmony vocalist Jethro Tull had. He even sang on the album he was not credited on, Heavy Horses (1978).Glascock then joined Jethro Tull in 1976, after having met Ian Anderson when Carmen opened several dates for Jethro Tull on their War Child tour. I've had a copy of this TV special on VHS for over 20 years and it doesn't include Salamander, wow, thanks for upload! It's one of my fav Anderson songs of all time. The dancing girl is amazingly beautiful. I want one for my own.

@JuilliardReject im my honest opinion, clapton has some good songs and all, but people like him are pretty overrated. from what ive heard atleast. and at the same time, i find that jethro tull is an underrated and less popular band from those times. and im not just talking about ian, but the whole group, all around.. true musicians in touch with with different roots.. not blues and all that, like clapton..

@deweyfinn123 It's true, mate. And I feel that too since this album came out. Both have the same rhythm and atmosphere :)

You can really tell its studio overdub on the Big Dipper segment where he misses his vocals half way through in conjunction with the flute.
