How ever much I like Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler, this is Jethro Tull and Martin Barre, a bloody good guitarist in his own right :-) I wonder if Mark Knopfler would consider a guest spot with Tull? Hmmmmm

yeah. i am seriously pissed off when i see people blaming the grammy incident on tull, and not on the grammy commission or whatever it is.. especially because metallica won something like eight of them after. so i can't really bear their whining, and that's because tulls are one of the greatest band ever, but their talent was never regognized enough.

oh, i didnt know that..crest of a knave was a great achievement for tull...

the worst part is they and a shitty part of their fanbase never accepted it. a serious lack of class on their part, i'm sure it would have never happened the other way around

I don't necessarily dislike the music, technically speaking. To me, it's the thematic content of this song, and most of later Jethro Tull stuff for that matter, that's just really shallow and dissappointing. Who would prefer some half-assed dime a dozen love song over the profound contents of albums as Thick as a Brick or Passion Play, or the rustic nostalgia of Heavy Horses.

Tull do Dire Straits (badly). This doesn't compare with anything from, say, 1968 - 1978. Grim.

I presented several radio programmes in Abu Dhabi during the time this was first released and we played the song fairly heavily. What irritated me then and still does 26 years later is that the song doesn't finish properly, it just stops. It's arguably Jethro Tull's most accessible and enjoyable song and I love it, but it's let down by the terrible ending.

Nah - Even at his worst, Ian can't sing quite as badly as Mark Knopfler :-)
