Another track off of the Chateau D'Isaster Tapes originally recored in 1973 then released on the Nightcap compilation in the 90s.

Lyrics - The master playwright

urges you to play right/play wrong;

life is long and every night's the first night.

The wardrobe mistress

urges you to dress left/dress right;

what a mess, well, your underpants are too tight.

Who's on the stage door

to help you find the way in/way out?

It's not a sin to be knowing that you don't know.

When you breathe your last line

will you make your exit stage left/stage right?

Well, you might decide while there's still time.

You have an angel on your shoulder

but you wear the old god's horns.

And you dance around the maypole

while the vicar makes a toast

to the pagan celebration

and extends an invitation to us all

so he can save us when we fall.

Who's your leading lady?

Will you help to get her off the bus? It's best

to pass the test before you get too lazy.

Strike up the orchestra.

Take your cues on the up-beat/Beat down

Anyone who says he doesn't like the sound.

This has got to be the grungiest Tull piece ever. It about blistered my eardrums when I first put on Nightcap. Though they rocked very hard at times later on too, they never quite got this cacophonous again. What a shame that original double album Passion Play never got completed. It is as good or even better than the final version to my ears. What a shame "Sailor" never got released also. Beautiful song if you can find a clean sounding bootleg.

And to think that they scraped this album and went to make "A Passion Play". Then later released this in the "Nightcap" compilation in the early 90s.

This is... "lust music"..! This Tull album has a lot of his more brilliant moments. Must be as considered as the best band classics like "Aqualung" and "Thick..."

You would rather listen to bubble gum? I'm sure there are plenty of Jonas Brothers songs to check out. I'll stick with tull.

One of many swipes at the critics who were put off by Tull's precise rendition of T.A.A.B.on the previous year's tour.

A rare track indeed! The distinctive 1973 sound of Jethro Tull is like no other with an intense range of emotion and drive. Thanks for sharing this classic piece and for providing the lyrics as well.

Yes Nick. You got that ONE SEAT IN THE STALLS CD. Tull played a couple of songs from the Chateau DiSaster tapes (at the tail end of the TAAB tour in early 1973).

Yes... that's why most fans love Tull. We like the DARKNESS and NEGATIVITY. DARK AGES!!!!!!!!!!!
