its not how it was based, but how it sounds, I really prefer rock style but this one was excellent, what Ted did was kind of a powerfull head voice or mix voice, balsamo´s falsetto its way better, he change tones while doin it, not only a dry scream, and come on, youre saying balsamo didnt had that emotion, how often have you seen the original, its the same face all the time

Sorry for my english: Perfect performance, both in terms of vocal and acting. Loneliness ... fear ... suffering ... Zero irritation that is felt, not like Jesus, in other embodiments. The best and truest realization of Christ's prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane. Big round of applause!

Well, maybe it's also because a lot of people prefer classic rock to show tunes? Not everyone likes that style of singing. I appreciate the technicality of it and think Balsamo is fantastic, but I much prefer Neeley's classic rock voice.

I think the Neeley and Balsamo debaters should realise that they are two different voices for two different genres. The old JCS had a classic rock style, for which Neeley was perfect. He had the edgy, frail, broken voice, perfect for that music style. Balsamo is also good, and whilst his voice is purer, his voice would not have fit with the old JCS. JCS has changed into the now favoured 'show' style, for which Balsamo is entirely appropriate for. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

I completely agree. Balsamo seems very sad, but Neeley is sad, broken, dejected, fragile. I don't get that from Balsamo at all.

Ah... seeing as how the original was based on that classic rock genre (and scream), I don't see how JC translates into a show falsetto. Sure, he can sing, but not in the style JC was intended for in the beginning. Oh, and it's a lot easier to sing falsetto than scream like Ted did.

I prefer how Ted sings the last section at 5:07 and onward. He sings with more emotion.

Ted nails the 'why' part, whereas Steve just crushes the 'watch me die' part with a vengeance. God has a lot of questions to answer

Amazing. I nave to say I prefer a little more Ted Neeley's falsetto, it is more incisive and rocky, but I do LOVE Steve's chest voice, and that emotion... just WOW.
