country? hick? wow...talk about close-minded. Listen to his version of Georgia and tell me he doesn't have soul. Listen to Amos Moses and tell me he doesn't have rythmn. How many times has this song been recorded??? 100? 200? I bet none of them sound this fresh. I love Delta blues and acoustic blues in general and to me, they're much more akin to what you refer to as "hick" music than the blues of today.

@colorod0 I would say Jerry was VERY steeped in real blues. His music had Ray Charles and Howlin Wolf as well as Merle Travis and Scott Joplin running thru it all. The album was his version of Ray Charles' The Modern Sound of Country Music in a way. You need to listen to more of his other stuff before you make such an assumption. He had a huge pocket and could play jazz, bluegrass, blues, classical (in his way), rock, and pop/folk music but make it his own.

I would say if you are not from Mississippi, or very steeped in REAL blues, you SHOULD NOT attempt this song. Not a country song or a hick song, a Delta blues song in origin. Fast pickin is no replacement for Rhythm and Soul.
