this actually isnt "a billie holliday song" as many people think.. meaning not written by her. She helped popularize the song however. Strange fruit was actually written by a white-american man of Jewish descent named Abel Meeropol. He wrote the lyrics originally as a poem and then set the words to music... creating one of America's most hauntingly beautiful tunes.
