While I respect JD and the Stamps for their music ministry, I disagree with the comments about "best" or "set the standard" regarding their music. The Statesmen Quartet with the Big Chief were the best Gospel Quartet of their era. JD may have been able to hit a lower note, but the Chief's bass harmony and leads were without equal.

JD. Sumner and the Stamps set the standard by which most if not all Quartets at the time and many years after set their goals. If you go back and replay some old Music when they sang with Elvis you can hear that sound and it resonates in singers from around the globe still today! Give credit where it is due and those 4 guys made Gospel music what it is today, and will be for years to come!! Happy Easter everyone!!

JD set the standard in which all other basses are measured by. Definantly a legend and he hit more low notes in a song than other basses do in a whole concert. And in listening to all/most of J.D. 's clips over the years and notes Tim Storms has hit. The record belongs to J.D., he SANG his notes.

Does anyone know what note J.D. Sumner sings at the end of this song?....

JD set the standard by which all other bass singers will be judged just like Rosie Rozelle set the standard for Tenors. The cool thing about JD is he adapted to the style of quartet singing that happening at that particular time with out letting go of his roots. Tim is an awesome bass singer. Two different styles. Pull some JD videos from back in the 70's when he was healthy and you will sing a different tune.

@mistertitanic That's just kinda his style. But JD worked alot with an elvis tribute artist named Eddie Miles throughout the 90s and I've met Eddie many times and those personal experiences help explain a lot more. Most of his performances with eddie weren't recorded, but he really did hit those low notes.

@vipor3D If that's the case, why do I never ever hear him sing like that? Wheneverhe sings low, the rest of the group has to quiet down just so you can hear him!
