most rock musicians can't read music. you learn by ear because you play along to your favorite records growing up, teaching yourself chords and/or drum parts while learning those songs. it's common.

I'm a drummer and I know that recording drums on top of something already finished otherwise is probably the hardest thing to do, because I have done it on a few songs. To do that for a whole album of Killing Joke is remarkable to say the least. To have that work become one of Killing Joke's best albums... is beyond words. Grohl is a massive talent. Killing Joke is a constant inspiration to me so maybe I am biased....

I don't really see how that is relevant :P as a highly experiences musician as dave grohl, you would only assume he could read music, for whatever purpose. I'm sure he can read music, because Kurt wrote all the drumtracks in Nirvana and surely dave had to read it to learn it. You can't learn something by ear that hasn't been invented yet :P

Is Dave Grohl serious? He can't read music? Surely he's exagerating, like he may not be able to have a sheet of music sat infront of him and be able to play it whilst he reads it, but he must know how to read it in general... I mean I talk about Dave Grohl with my drum teacher a lot because i worship him and we both know he's a better musician/drummer for having more instinct and natural rhythme than knowledge of how to play things physically, but still...can't read music? :P

Tribal style drumming 2.) Intense intelligent lyrics which precisely pinpoints humanities' condition 3.) Massive guitar work by Geordie that doesn't just play major or minor chords - There has not been any band yesterday, today or tomorrow that can ever match KJ's intensity, which is based on mysticism and prophecy.
