A great live version of a smash hit by Jay and the boys. Please check out my rendition "Mike sings Jay Black", and tell me what you think? Thanks!

As far as I know the original version of this song has only been available in MONO. The use of pre-recorded backing tracks here (which sound to me like those from the record) suggest that stereo mix tapes existed somewhere and at some time. What has happened to them...well, I sure don't know!

Unusual position of the pickup on Marty Sanders' 12-string Guild Acoustic-Electric Guitar. Most of those guitars in the 1960's would have had the pickup either in the middle of the sound hole or at the edge where the fret board meets the sound hole. Here, it's sound hole, then two frets, then pickup, then the remainder of the neck.

On this day in 1965 {March 3rd} Jay and the Americans performed "Come A Little Bit Closer" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Six months earlier on September 12th, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #3 and spent 15 weeks on the Top 100... And on November 30th, 1964 it reached #1 {for 1 week} on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart... R.I.P. Jimmy O'Neill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013} and Jay Traynor will celebrated his 70th birthday in 27 days on March 30th...

This is seriously some find - it's not lip-synced and it represents their "in between" period (somewhere around '66/'67) after Howie left the group when they were still sort of pop/doo-wop and also trying to be more mod/hippy

Wow!!! This is great, I grew up in the sixties and have again started listening to his music!!! His eyes and that mouth make me melt!!! I am again addicted to his voice. We are still listening to his music---a compliment to his talent!!!!! Love.

I'm late, Dawn has already been here! Again, something live from the period when it's scarce. Thanks for this rare video of Jay Black, bze2nlz4.
