In 2014 a woman named Maureen Corrigan published a book called So We Read On: How The Great Gatsby Came to Be and Why It Endures. She confesses at one point that she thought of entitling it Jay and the Americans, but quickly realized that no younger readers would get the reference, and older readers who remembered this group would still need reminding. I confess I did. Of course we remember Roy Orbison, the Four Seasons; probably also Peter and Gordon, and The Seekers.

Got to see them in concert in 1967. Impression was that Jay was just as good live as on record, and the Americans were even better. Wonderful show.

Nice song. He is a tenor no doubt about it that is the reason he can get the high notes very well and his voice is powerful. I could not sing like him as my voice is deeper and cannot manage the high notes as he does. He knows how to breathe which is the trick to sing and not have yourself left without air. Great to listen to and enjoy!

Wow! I used to spin that when I was a rock jock at WINX "Action Radio" in Rockville, MD. That was a lo-o-ong time ago!

Joe, I agree that it was an incredible time for music. Today's folks have a different take on music and I don't like to criticize because as I;m sure you will remember, our parents generation didn't appreciate our music either.ur generation was just much more into vocals than the kids are now. There are a great many great young entertainers out there. This song is a classic and one of my favorites also.. regards.
