what's with everyone quarrelling over whether Chinese is easy or hard? Chinese is neither easy or hard, it's just about how you approach it. Basic Chinese isn't a hard thing to grasp, it is the higher level Chinese that really requires deeper learning and understanding. If you grew up in an all-Chinese speaking background, it would come more naturally and comfortable to you. you will have more interest in expanding your vocabulary, hence reading/watching more to deepen your Chinese skills/knowledge. I'm a Southeast Asian Chinese who studied in China as a child, I enjoy the language and speaking it, but learning it in school is a pain in the ass to me, i don't find it difficult, just frustrating to stick to a textbook/essay curriculum. But to my fellow classmates, they hate it more and find it difficult in general. Thoroughly learning a language really is about how you approach it, while I'm decent in Chinese in general, I can't say I'm the best at it bc really, i still have a lot more to learn.
