I had to re-submit this song as my first one has been rejected due to content.

Jay Black with lead vocals with this first attempt at something really different and JATA are trying something new at an attempt to change with the times. Released in 1966, the single just bubbled under the top 100 and definitely should have been a hit. Written by Ron Dante of the Archies fame. Ron Dante has written, produced and has been the lead voice on

some of the biggest hits of the sixties.

Ron sang lead and was all the background voices for the group

The Archies whose single "Sugar, Sugar" was the number one record of the year 1969.

Ron also was the lead singer for the group The Cuff Links

whose hit "Tracy" was top ten in 1969.

Dante's voice was also heard on such hits as:

"Hang On Sloopy" by The McCoys

"Only In America" by Jay and The Americans

"Draggin the Line" by Tommy James

In 1965 Dante formed the group The Detergents whose hit

"Leader of the Laundromat" was top 10.

Anyone who has ever turned on a radio or T.V. has heard Ron's voice.

He was the lead voice on hundreds of commercials

McDonalds, Campbells Soup, Budwieser Beer, Coke, Pepsi and Dr. Pepper were all Ron's voice.

In the seventies and eighties Ron Produced such artists as Barry Manilow,

Pat Benetar, Cher and has written and produced music for Walt Disney's T.V. series

"The Little Mermaid" and Showtimes "Full Frontal Comedy".

I never called it doo-wop (although I'm sure Jay & crew were serious students of it when they practiced their harmonies & were big fans also). Just for the record,I know the distinction between doo-wop,oldies & pop ! And you're right, the harmonies are great . Kinda reminds me a little of The Tokens (in terms of background harmonies that is).

Why did he have to go and steal my love, why did he take away. These lyrics hit it right on the spot and the harmony is top.

I remember hearing this song a long, long time ago & digging it right away. I'm a big fan of doo-wop & oldies. I love background harmonies to the max. I really dig how from 2:15 on, you can hear the backup vocals do their thing so beautifully(raining in my sunshine) while Jay shadows with his sprinkle of "raining in my sunshine"....then the best part...(b/u vocals gain-alone)..clouding...(Jay) "clouding up my sky.......I can't even explain how this kind of stuff messes with my brain. Love it !
