I have to disagree on some account. Jas definitely has an amazing voice, no one can argue with that. But I'm not feeling the emotion here -- holding one's hand to one's brow, idk, it's just a bit forced, a bit phony-it doesn't feel real. And, I can't believe that such a young, privileged girl can understand the life of pain in the song. It's just not a good match. Again, technically it's perfect - but almost too technical. The runs and trills...it takes away from the rawness of the lyrics.

When I watch the Patty Griffin video clip I get a vibe fitting of a lover’s serenade around a warm fire. That’s not this song! Patty is a singer/songwriter. The difference with Jas is that she is also a brilliant performer and from her performance I get a vibe in perfect harmony with this song. If you don’t like theatrics it may be wise to just listen to your CD’s from now on.

this is a beautiful song when it's done by PATTY GRIFFIN and not some over reaching american idol reject. sorry if that's harsh, but they meaning of this song is lost in the theatrics of jasmine's voice and her version of this song.
