This is probably the least talked about JOC album (including the band) but lands as one of my favorites. So solid from start to finish.

It was written for the movie Liar Liar but was cut. Five Candles, Max the wishing that his dad couldn't lie, the line you were never here. It fits the movie well.

It doesn't necessarily have to be about a man either. This is an honest song about a relationship, which is something Jars of Clay have always been excellent at writing.

And at times I the man actually steps back into his childhood thoughts, such as the first verse and the pre-chorus.

It's not necessarily about crappy parents. It's about a man looking back at his childhood and remembering both the good and bad times he had with his parents. It's also about the man wishing his parents were still in his life. The reason why they're not isn't explained, but it's possible that they've passed away and he's talking to them in Heaven. This is a very honest song about a relationship, something Jars of Clay have always been excellent at writing.
