A person keeps climbing the oak tree, keeps looking over it for things of this world: of cars and cities. And a person who loves her watches it happen, watches her being pulled toward the darkness. He tries to keep her awake, to keep the would-be sleeper awake, telling her to do what is right with her life, make it all that it was meant to be. Because they’ll eventually meet again under the city lights. They’ll meet with in Heaven, the city, under Jesus, the light. He’s telling her not to fall asleep and love the things of this world because there is something more. So, so much more. And if she falls in love with it, if the darkness devours her, it’ll all be over. Don’t fall asleep, brothers and sisters. Stay awake with me. We’ll meet again when Jesus comes for us.:)

Never heard this one, but yet I've plussed one it...lol. Just beautiful. I do love the Jars of Clay. It reminds me of a story from a very, very old book when no one would stay awake for a very dear friend of mine... I know now that it was what he wanted more than anything was a hand to hold. God Bless.

Such maturity and scope in songwriting and production from a band that made a demo disc to submit to CCM Magazine and won the new band showcase. I find it has gotten better as they have gotten older at least physically

It is such a beautiful song, I just close my eyes and let the music to take me to another world, another place.

I adore this song. I don't see a biblical interpretation, though. I see it as a story about a man who loved a girl who had bigger dreams in mind than he did. Either way, it's so beautiful.

Dislike me all ya want, I still miss the '95-'09 days. Mostly the 90's. They had beautiful melodies such as this, but they also JAMMED! Just listen to "Flood" "Liquid" "I Need You". I just like some balance, but that is just me.

Goosebumps when I heard this song. The lyrics is like an interpretation of Jesus' return and what happens to His Bride (the church) while waiting for his return. Is the ladt Rhian Ramos? :)

"Stay up with me, don't fall asleep, Because we only have this moment once in our lives..." Reminds me of Jesus' words in Gethsemane."And next time we'll meet under city lights.." If we would look at the lyrics closely, I think the song symbolizes the love relationship of Jesus and His Bride, the Church. It's like He's telling believers to not veer away from Him while waiting for His return to establish His new city, which is heaven, in person. :)
