Beautiful version - but I'm also a fan of the English-language version as sung by Elvis Presley. ;)

I am so sorry if I gave the impression that I misunderstood your comment.I am sure that you, like myself, appreciate the lovely voices of ALL the ladies A beautiful song sung by one of the greatest singers.of our or any other age.

I think you misunderstand my comment which was not meant as a criticism of N.M. or J.B. who are great singers in their own light. It was aimed at the hierarchical presentation of this song by YouTube ...!

I don't think the two mentioned would consider themselves as good as Janet Baker ever ,different worlds but all enjoyable.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say Nana M. and Joan B. SHOULDN'T sing classical - after all, everyone has a right to his/her illusions... What is shocking is the way in which the "grain" and "chaff"are mixed up and fed to the public...with no concern for their (in)digestion !!

Victoria de la Angeles and Janet Baker are classical and opera singer while Nana Mouskouri and Joan Baez are pop and folk singers. Right, this is not the same repertoire and the latter ones should not sing classical because they have not the right voice for it.

A very dignified and beautiful singer. I think she needs and deserves more appreciation in this modern world of histrionic-singers. Thanks for putting up...diana

Possibly the best rendering together with that of Victoria de los Angeles...I just can't understand why these 2 versions show up in the You-Tube list way behind those of Nana Mouskouri, Joan Baez... etc. I don't mean to criticize the latter two but they are just not in the same class as Janet Baker or Victoria de los Angeles.

A friend of mine told me that many years ago he hid in a bush at Glyndebourne and started singing and that picnickers thought it was Janet Baker singing! Well I had to laugh. She would have loved that story too I'm quite sure.......Wonderful voice!
