The best Janes song out there. This performance cannot be topped. Been listening to Janes for 20yrs. Perry"s voice isnt the same now but he is still the man. Along with Dave,Eric and Stephen of course there would be no Janes Addiction without them. Flea did a decent job subbing for Eric but the magic isnt there. The Hammerstein performance is great too.

I love Ritual so much. Ever since it came out. I lived in LA, and it just represents the whole experience of the early 90s there. I've always thought of "Side 2" of this album to be very Zeppelinesque (sorry to use an esque).

I never saw this lineup play live, living in Los Angeles I thought "Meh, they play here all the time, I'll go see them eventually". Woops! :-(Love this song, it's my favorite of theirs, but like some others, I think it misses the synth strings, piano and solo violin parts. Still, what a great rhythm section Perkins and Avery were!.

This is so unusually out of sync. It wants to go dark, with pounding thunder and lightning strike, a storm on it's way. Everyone feels it, except for Perry drifting off with sunshine and rainbows. I was hoping someone would go ahead and overpower his vocals, but they know him better than I do.

Even though they were falling apart as a band by this point, they were sounding incredible. Ritual de lo Habitual is one of the greatest records of all time.

When I watched this video I felt I could see Perry pouring his soul into the lyrics--at certain points his expression is of someone very immersed in the music and full of deep emotion. Then I read it was about a former love of his who died of an overdose, and also about his mother's suicide. That explained a lot about the depth of this moving performance.

Ironically, I only noticed this song after seeing a clip of local band Poppy Fields doing a cover of it, which was a good 1-2 years after I got the album. Now, it's my most favorite Jane's Addiction track.
