@therealkindle: Good and bad, it's all a matter of perception. if you perceive that punk has a better sound than classical, its your perception. we are in a digital age, and digital music is always compress. now deciding which one sounds better digital or analog, again is a matter of perception.

I understand Lidell's electronic/experimental background and where it all started and I'll always be a huge fan of his sound and creativity, but I suppose I appreciate more of his raw stripped down material? The guy can sing his ass off, more of that please Jamie!

No I didn't. I took a waveform from 1973 to use as an example of mastering volume. And how it has changed. That is a fact. A sad fact, because good music will always stand out. Without it being so loud that there's no room for dynamic range. But I see that my efforts are futile, & are falling on deaf ears; no wonder after letting the loudness war dictate your choice of music!! It is Physically impossible to push sound up to bizarre levels on Vinyl. Otherwise they would have done it.

You claimed an era that was better, so I used your own scale and musical guide to show you thats not factual, nor a way to judge music. And then you judge an mp3 on youtube as if it were the same track on a vinyl. Then you call out Dreams....theres so many things wrong there lol.

Indeed. But it's not the music or the sound I am talking about. It's about the volume the piece was recorded at. No matter what you do, you cannot turn the track down. Adjust your volume, & you will still hear the track as though it were recorded loudly. That's because it's been compressed. All the drum peeks, quiet dips, & contrasts between quiet & loud have been squashed to the same level, so that level can be maintained as loud as possible throughout. Look up the video on here "Loudness War".
