I think you can hear more of her regretting breaking up with James on the following album, "For the Roses", particularly in the lyrics to "See You Sometime" ("Pack your suspenders, I'll come meet your plane...") and in the title cut of the album ("Remember the day when you used to sit and make up your tunes for love and pour your simple sorrow to the soundhole and your knee...") I think those lyrics are specifically about James.

I just recently saw a video bio of Joni called "Woman of Heart and Mind" (I think) and not once in this soul-baring video did she speak of her relationship with James. I remember when they were together and I remember when her album Blue came out after their split. That album seemed to be much inspired by their ill-fated romance. I do think she and Graham Nash should have stayed together but Joni being Joni, no one could tie her down for long in those days. Will always love her, JT & Graham.

I saw the PBS special & he did say that. It certainly isn't difficult to get confirmation of their relationship, which inspired great music from each of them. I think Joni would have had a happier life if she'd married Graham Nash.

Where's Joni Mitchell? I used to call James Taylor "old fart voice," and when I think for a moment of all the flakes who supposedly received her favors, including some of the most superficial characters in music and movies, I get depressed. She lived in Laurel Canyon with Graham Nash for a time, and he wrote about it in the song "Our House," saying that when you fall for Joni, you fall all the way. At least he had something on the ball. Her alleged fling with Taylor was short-lived.

You were probably thinking of Carly Simon as her and James Taylor were a couple!..or maybe you were thinking of 'Let The River Run' by Carly Simon. Easy mistake to make!

??? 'River' is a Joni Mitchell song not a Carly Simon one. Beautiful song.

It doesn't matter how long the've stayed together, I am sure that it meant a lot to both of them, and it must've been hard to split, but sometimes it's unevitable . They've remained close though, I'm sure they have followed each other's step along the way, and most important, wrote great music about it.

coz they can. instead of holding it in until they find a video or avoiding the distraction of video. ain't free social media great ? maybe coz they want to know if there are others out there who felt what they felt when they heard this song. is music not like the sense of smell with and it's crucial effect on memory?

Why do people post audio recordings with a picture on a video site?

I have cried that he ended up like he did. When I said crazy I meant that beautiful soul who I saw dance around his bass as it's feedback he somehow manipulated into notes and squonks. I stand corrected but I wasn't using crazy as a description of his mental state...you said it best. He loved Joni (not romantic) but you can hear it. That isn't bass he's playing. No I have only admiration and deep respect for Jaco. He was a wild, wild spirit, better?

@nosnayack While I agree with you that the artistic collaboration between Jaco Pastorius and Joni was indeed remarkable, Jaco was NOT crazy. I knew Jaco personally from the time that we were children together, until his days touring with Joni. He was a genius with a condition that got of control, likely due to the intensity of his creative immersion. Jaco was far more in control than the unfortunate legend that only grows in the years since his tragic passing.

The short union we were privileged to review is so resounding. Joni, James Taylor, Carol King, and the Carly Simon music we've been given is and should always be regarded as a treasure. Thank you so much James, Carly, Joni, Carol, et. al. We LOVE you, and always will!
