The record shown here (Colpix 609) WAS released in 1961 with the B-side "Valerie". This copy goes for about 15 bucks...bonus points if you have the PICTURE SLEEVE which alone goes for about 25 in mint condition. The original release of "Goodbye Cruel World" was on Colpix 181 in 1960 with the B-side "Walking My Baby Back Home" and goes for about 20 bucks in the collectors' market.

This was the first record I ever bought. i was about 12. I saw James Darren on The Donna Reed show & when I heard the song I took some of my babysitting money and bought it the next day. I still love that song! Thanks for the memory......and I'll have find it to add it to my mp3 player. :0)

I remember this song from 1961 when my brother left his clock alarm radio on when he left early for school and "Goodbye Cruel World" played while I was sleeping. When I woke up and went to school, I told my classmates about hearing this song and I practically had the words memorized. One of my favorites.

Not only was James Darren a great singer, he also starred in Irwin Allen's The Time Tunnel. It lasted only one season. And I know he was a regular on T.J. Hooker.

Still remember when this song was popular. My mother received as a gift from her boss a little porcelain figure that had an older lady sitting on a toilet pulling on a chain, and when one assisted pulling on the chain the old lady would go you know where. The toilet had the words, "goodbye cruel world" on it. Very memorable!
