Five dislikes I see'to all others on the like side. You'll like this. I'm 65 now.I'm in line at grocery store ib Ca., Life mag had published Bob Hope death, it was everywhere, I take it out to see it, & to buy & save it: a much younger couple next to me' The girl takes notice of The Bob Picture; passing away' She goes in to this thing who's he' I simply said He was a great guy; did the USO thing, She says I never heard of him. I didn't say an other thing. . Now it gets interesting;He's a young man maybe 20 21, He says to his girl friend in a normal tone of voice. To the effect'It's OK, he gets her eye to eye attention" I'm sort of looking down thinking how sad.He then says.If it were for you to know You would know' , but it's not for you to know' & it's alright:drop it.I was stunned by the caliber of this young man speaking kindly to his girl friend;Not only am I Vietnam Vet & did catch a few of his Shows there. he was trying to helpher save some face.Thumbs Up; To Mr. Cagney & Mr Hope. & a thumbs up to the gentleman who shown soClass

GREAT. Thanks for posting. Again, and again love seeing this scene! And you´re so right.. this never goes out of fashion! Bob Hope was born in England... but is considered an US Comedian - no wonder as the family moved to the States when he was 4 years old. ;-)

For many people in the "modern" world.. this would be old fashioned today.But.. when did skill, style, ability, agility, panache and sheer CLASS ever go out of fashion. Wonderful performance.. and they were NOT young men.!Both Americans, but one was English.. name that man and I [won't] give you an easter egg..?Isn't this just fabulous.. makes modern day entertainers look a bit limp.?WF

It's the fact that they were Vaudevillians. Those performers were athletes and continually pushed themselves beyond their physical limits. Mr. Cagney remarked in the book, Cagney By Cagney, that performing in the Vaudeville circuit was the hardest work he'd done and one of the best periods of his life. I have such admiration for both men, but particularly Mr. Cagney. Grace, dignity, and professionalism personified.

it was great to see them together but i think cagney looked a lot more comfortable dancing than bob hope did but they had fun, it would have great to see cagney dance with fred astaire and gene kelly

When you look at the grace and agility that both these men display on screen, It's hard to remember that Hope was 52 and Cagney was 56 when this was shot, yet they both move like men half their age. What's more, no one could come close these days. James Cagney will always be my idol, but Bob gives him a god run for his money here.

You'd never know it, but Cagney was in extreme pain while shooting this scene. He pulled a muscle, and his leg was swelling up as he was dancing. He couldn't move for days afterwards... They don't make 'em like these two anymore...
