Hey guys, it's about 3 Jimmies :) Here's an interview of James Blunt in which he explained everything about this song: "I wrote that with a friend of mine called Jimmy Hogarth. It was the last song before I went to Los Angeles, so I was saying, “So long, Jimmy”, it was really for him and the partnership before I made my album. But I’m referring to Jimi Hendrix a lot of the time, and the last line is obviously a nod to the Doors and Jim Morrison."

Its Jim Morrison it even plays Riders on The Storm at the end. No where in that song does it mention the military or getting blown up. It also mentions voodoo magic something usually associated with Morrison and Hendrix and since its not called so long Jimi it is about Jim Morrison.
