Dazed and Confused was written by the folk-rock singer Jake Holmes and released as a track in his debut album "The Above Ground Sound" Of Jake Holmes in 1967. That same year Jake Holmes opened for The Yardbirds in a show in New York where Jimmy Page heard the song. The song was rearranged and later became one of Led Zeppelin best-known songs, the debt to Jake Holmes however went largely unacknowledged by the band until 2012.

Its a matter of musical and intellectual integrity. It is obvious they stole the music and title and added their own lyrics...complete lack of integrity. However, I do think Zep was an immensely talented and innovative band. Makes me wonder how many other songs they ripped from someone else.

It's hard to think of a band that's more overrated than Led Zeppelin.

Led Zeppelin re-interpreted the song. If they ripped it off, it would have been the same song, but they took it and made it something new. When you buy an album, you aren't just purchasing a melody, you're getting the whole package... the band's look, the sleeve art, the lyrics, the audio quality, the band's history. The actual melody of a song is just a small portion of the overall package. So, Led Zeppelin is original in all but that tiny fraction of a fraction of the melody track. There are only a limited number of chords, and chord progressions that sound acceptable to the human ear, so there is bound to be some "imitations" which are actually just an artifact of having a limited amount of acceptable range. All houses have vertical walls and a sloping roof. Is that theft from every architect? McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King all serve hamburgers quickly. Are they stealing? Led Zeppelin rules. To hear low-lifes criticize them is like swine reviewing a pearl. Led Zepp today, tomorrow and for ever.

I am a Led Zeppelin fan but there is no way in dennying that they copied this music. They coul have reinvented it, but they also copied. Fair enough they share rights...

Yeah, I'd be pissed if someone stole my song and got rich off of it. But Zeppelin would have made a fortune many, many times over even without Dazed and Confused. They were in a supergroup in the 1970s, and the music business is one of the most cutthroat businesses to be in that's not arms dealing or a TLO or politics. They did the same thing most groups do even today, on a much grander and more systematically deceptive scale, yet because you whiners have a hard on for it, you're only interested in tarnishing an inconceivably important musical time capsule.I am disappointed to learn they did not give credit, and even more disappointed they won't pay up, but come on, we're talking about a group of guys who single-handedly embodied the REBELLION of the 70s, trashing hotel rooms, sleeping with girls they did not know the age of, ingesting every sort of illicit compound known to man, regularly... etc., and yet... again, YOU whiners are focused on this aspect. They weren't evil, they were FUCKING OUT OF CONTROL MUSICAL ANARCHY. And I happen to appreciate that. You don't have to. That's your problem. They are and always will be musical gods, and you lot are jealous and have your panties in a wad.OH NO! Dishonest musicians! Say it isn't so!Thanks for exposing the corruption, but I do not care and will continue to revere Zep's incredible contribution always. If fucking Stalin wrote and performed Zep's music in a band with Hitler, I'd still listen to it.

Jake Holmes is a brilliant comic and commercial jingle writer as well.....He first gained fame as a member of the comic folk group JIM, JAKE AND JOAN....Joan being Joan Rivers !!! See them on youtube in the folk comedy movie ONCE UPON A COFFEE HOUSE from 1965. Jake wrote the DR. PEPPER jingle I'm A Pepper as well a the famous Army recruiting jingle Be All You Can Be...Join The Army! He teamed up with Bob Gaudio of The Four Seasons to write and arrange the WATERTOWN album for Frank Sinatra, He further adapted a song from his first album heard here called The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette...and co-wrote with Bob Gaudio, The Four Seasons album of the same name. I also recommend his 1970 album, SO CLOSE, SO VERY FAR TO GO.
