After the Fretboard Journal interviewed Jackson Browne for their latest issue (Fretboard Journal #22), we asked if he'd play a tune for us. The result is this amazing version of "Something Fine" performed on his cherished Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe guitar.

Filmed at Browne's Santa Monica, California studio on February 16, 2011 by Jason Verlinde of the Fretboard Journal.

Tuned down a half step in drop-G tuning, when you first play these wonderful chords it's like gently engaging the lever on that movie 19th century time machine. You aren't sure if time is passing at first but the notes ring so pleasantly you just sit back and enjoy the trip.Thank you Jackson

I'm trying to remember.......... wasn't there something from Morocco that used to be considered fine by my generation? Oh, I know what it was, corned beef hash!

this video is like having the man in your living room playing just for you (damn..sure wish i did). thanks so much for this post..i drives me crazy that lots younger musicians haven't rediscovered jackson the way they have springsteen and other artists of our generation. hopefully one day more of them will.

Saw his show last night in Providence, RI. Three hours! Awestruck. He very plainly indicated that he had no set list and asked the audience to call out requests. We were fortunate to be in the third row and I asked for this song - my favorite. He smiled and pointed at my wife and me, retrieved this very guitar (from about two dozen on stage racks!) and he sang it beautifully, a highlight for me from one of my favorite performers. I play it myself and have always found comfort in it. Thanks Jackson. Thank you.

I'm happy that Jackson and his people have decided to release his masterworks in an acoustic, stripped-down fashion. There's something remarkable about the combination of Jackson's voice+ his words and melodies played on an old Gibson acoustic.

Proof that a guitar and a voice can stop the world in it's tracks.
