I agree with Richard, you almost had buy these records on the sly, the "white" stores did not carry any of the early rock and roll it was not called doo wop for many years later. I remember going with my girlfriends to a little record shop in Hackensack NJ to buy our records, BTW I am white and we just ate up all of this as I could save the money for it, the Wrens, the Orioles, the Diablos, Paragons, Jesters, I could go on forever.

I remember this song when I was a kid. It wasn't popular for young white kids in Boston to like black music. God how hard these artists worked and contributed to an era that created valuable treasures. Peace brothers and siters

this is a classic that I don't believe many remember. I happen to remember and am so glad I do. Of course I was only 10 yrs old when it came out. Heard it on an oldies show out of New York and went out and bought it. So glad I did. Grab your sugar and slow dance. The doo wop wiz

This was my first rock 'n roll song. Summer camp 1955. The first day at camp my bunkmate asked me, "Have you heard about rock 'n roll?" "No. What is it?" Music, he said and thus began my love affair with hard music continuing through the Beatles, Pink Floyd and now techno. The bunkmate? He went on to be dean of a couple of med schools, but rock'n roll was no longer in his life. We met in SF a couple of months ago. Lovely man; but he couldn't even remember Why Don't You Write>
