Much of today's popular music is oversimplified Banal, loud, and with an emphasis on the beat. Music of this type is sophisticated and lush, with an emphasis on the melody, as well as interesting and complex chord changes. Each of Gleason's tracks from the '50s is a veritable treasure-trove of harmony and beautiful arranging- And we haven't even gotten to jazz yet! Unfortunately, the typical music listener in 2014 can't fathom this stuff, due to their ears having been numbed through years of exposure to sonic garbage, as well as through a lack of education. That would explain only 21K hits on a post that's been on YouTube for 4.5 years! Man, post some big-boobed, butt-shaking blonde bimbo pop star who can't even hold a tune, and you'd rake in that many hits in 4.5 hours! That's the world today, folks!
