Jackie Evancho (United States) sang this song in 2009 when she was only 9 years old.
Amira Willighagen (Netherlands) sang it in october 2013, she's now also 9 years old.
The song O mio babbino caro ("Oh My Beloved Father") is a soprano aria from the opera Gianni Schicchi (1918), by Giacomo Puccini.
Of course Jackie's star has quickly risen, she has done several performances and recorded a few albums since her break-through one year later in 2010, aged 10, in America's Got Talent where she became second.
Amira recently performed in the Dutch counterpart Holland's Got Talent.
A virtual contest, so which one is better? :) Just kidding, I know they both are very talented.

Yes, it's a tragic love song about a girl who wants the man she loves so badly that if she can't have him she will kill herself by jumping from the Ponte Vecchio ('old bridge', a famous bridge in Florence) into the Arno river..
And yes, both girls still have a lot to learn, not only about singing and breathing techniques, but also about understanding the true meaning of the song and expressing the emotions from the lyrics. Listen to Maria Callas' version of the song to understand...

It might have been expedient for Amira to try to ride Jackie's coattails but it is the worst thing they could ever have done her. She will now always be compared to her and found woefully lacking. Just try watching Jackie at 11... not 9 as is done here. I dare anyone to watch her "Dream with Me" PBS Great Performances show and try to even imagine Amira doing the same thing now at age 11. Both girls are remarkable, but Amira is by far the strongest singer. Jackie has had lessons and coaching too. Amira seems more genuine, although Jackie is a sweet girl. It is obvious that the pedo pervs want Jackie, however, may they burn in hell. Amira represents a marvelous Dutch education and ethics system. In the village where I often judge singers all says Jackie is better in voice timbre , delivery, in showing emotions while singing and the rest. Even my neighbor Daguldulan and Agapto who don't like singing loves Jackie. No doubt it is Jackie above all.8 years ago

How can you compare the two child prodigies in this video ?Jackie is singing in a school hall with zero acoustics and a karaoke back up track and Amira is singing in an Acoustic auditorium with professional sound stage.You guys have as much music sense as a donkey.8 years ago

I don`t know the personality of Amira but of Jackie. She has so much goodness that she never would make a conflict. She would take Amiras hand and sing together. Her worst utterance was a grimace asked for Justin Bieber. And , if I remember right, Amira asked Jackie how to do. They are not oponents. So the fans shouln`t quarrel, both woudn`t like it. Singing is a question of taste and so I can tell my opinion but I`ll never insult someone. Both are extremly talentated and come the next generation of stars. And there is enough place for two.I like the soft and pure sound of Jackie, nearly without tremolo, like a mother`s sleepingsong. See "Koujouno-tsuki" or "Danny-boy". Her nearly perfect sinus-wave moves me until the bones. Jackie can renounce tremolo couse having an absolutly shure intonation. There is never recorded a single slanting tone after 9 years. Her body-movements and singing with shut eyes show how strong she feels the music.But I know many people like a strong tremolo and see it as a sign of art. These people Jackie will not reach.Amira has a wonderful voice and a strong personality. So I expect her to come a great singer. But at this time she is just a little unshure at intonation so she need a strong tremolo and has to loop in high notes. But with Andre Rieu it comes just better. She moves me not so much but I`m hopeful to become a fan of both.Does anyone know opinions from one of both about the other?8 years ago

And by the way: Amira does not only sing opera. She had more performings in Germany where she did : I have a dream from ABBA. (look at YouTube) She is now a part of Andre-Rieu assemble and was signing with Pavarotti and Poll-Pot. She did perform in Holland/Belgium/Switzerland/ South-Africa/Australia/France/Argentina and the big O2-arena in London. And her agenda is still full booked for the coming two years. (2015/2016) Because the Dutch law don't let minors do more than 12 performs per year. By now Amira is 12 years old and she has even much more improved signing-skills!
