Begotten is correct. You can be called a son or daughter of God, but this only means you've been adopted into the family. The father, son and holy spirit- or the trinity is all one. Like the three sides of a Christmas tree (this was the original idea behind the tree btw). Becoming a son or daughter of God does not mean you become like him, but that you finally understand how much he loves you. That's what this whole song is about.
