Belter of a tune, and this is a truly amazing version by Van.

Interesting carry on with the bassist here. He clearly doesn't know the song very well from the outset and Van spots it - you can see him turn and point an accusatory finger at him. Bassist appears to be compensating by pretending it's a tuning issue. Musicians! Tsk tsk.

There is only one reason why a "corporate entity" can OWN actual creative documents. And that is because someone SOLD them those documents. Without a seller, there is no buyer. BTW, there is no difference between a "corporate entity" owning something, and you owning something. Both are legal entities. You can't make a valid claim of ownership unless you have legal right to something. Artists should be careful of the contracts they sign.

i think it's interesting that there are corporate entities that OWN the actual creative documents of blues musicians who have been dead for nearly 80 year, e.g., Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and Robert Johnson, RIP. Corporate entities that have no legal connection to the original artists (those artists never signed contracts w/UMG etc) can make a claim of OWNERSHIP of these men's recordings simply illustrates the omnipotence of commercial law and the perversion of civil law in the usa.

@rvcrvc2 It's not youtube who wants videos taken down. In fact, they are the ones making money off people watching this stuff. I would say that this don't constitute fair use, not because the user who uploaded it is making money, but that youtube is making money from it.

@w0mblemania True...but one has to consider that law is not always fair or efficient.Think of the number of people (young artists, people who take solace in music) who would otherwise have no access to all the material on youtube.Think of how many more artists we have gained thanks to the availability of this material. I am certainly not saying that the creators of the material should be ripped off! But should there be a limit to the extent of the copyright?

@w0mblemania I don't think anyone desrespects Van here. Legal issues have nothing to with fairness, respect, or morality. I don't think you need to mix them up here. Thank you.

@rvcrvc2 Or, you could just respect OTHER PEOPLE'S RIGHTS. In this case, the rights of the copyright OWNERS. Just because you like something doesn't mean its yours. Show some respect for creators and rights owners.

Drunken Irish Lout, always lookin' fer a fight. That's what I like about him!! He is doing pretty good for being a burnt out, wasted relic from ridiculously excessive times. (the 90s. Ha! Got ya!)

I noticed that all his great live performances have been taken off at one time or the other. I am thrilled that this one (my all time favorite is back..for a while at least). I don't get him..Who does? He's not the most popular artist..He has a tight following and we will always love him. I saw him at the Filmore East back in the early 70's and he was plastered. He was terrible. Van - Let the young people enjoy you. Don't stop youtube from airing your performances.
