It was an Iron Savior song first and it seems to me that the version on Somewhere Out in Space is the same track, only with a slightly different mix.

Kai Hansen stay with Iron Savior until 3rd album. Him is main vocal in some other musics of Iron Savior. Iron Savior is a project of Piet Sielck.

From the original "Somewhere out in space" album's booklet: Music and lyrics: Piet Sielck and Kai Hansen. They are friends and made this song together.

I fucking love Iron Savior. I remember discovering them purely by chance at my local record shop. I picked "Battering Ram" off the shelf because it had a space ship on the cover, and after taking it home and putting it in my cheap old CD player, I was instantly conquered. Best band ever.

"The track "Watcher in the Sky" was recorded by Iron Savior and appears on their self-titled 1997 album." [Wikipedia - Somewhere Out in Space]

I like the Gamma Ray version as well. And somehow I always think of the Protoss from StarCraft when I hear this song.

@tankermottind lolwut. It's obviously Kai. Pete is only @ 2:40 something. Kai is kai and there is no question that is him singing. Look at the live video. Pete steps back and Kai leads this one (he wrote it).
