Can't you see the sun sett'in down , noth'in will ever last ontop this ground, not to see that you've got to be blind Just be grateful that what we're losin'in was a good thing, but not of our chosen...not of our chosen

Hey Douglas totally agree, loved Northern Expo and this song was perfect for the ending. I forgot she sang it - until I was checking out a John Prine song with Iris on it, "In Spite of Ourselves" and rediscovered it.

There's a great John Gorka song--"Houses in the Fields"--which looks at the other side of the coin--what has happened to the precious jewel o our family-farm agrarian past, in the midst of which these little towns shone. The movie "The Last Picture Show" covers some of this same ground. Sorry--I'm beginning to feel a careful brotherly relationship to this site!

I heard the beautiful song “Our Town” on Mid West Radio this morning. I had to google so here I am with my comments. I absolutely love this song. Iris has such an amazing and unique voice and the words brought tears in my eyes. This song is so true to life – the predominant theme is the short-lived nature of life. We are only passing through so live each day as if it was the last!

It brings tears to my eyes and goose bumps to my skin. Beautiful just beautiful.

She looks as befuddled by her own lyrics as I am by her voice.

How I ended up here: there was a solo vocalist at church (!) this evening who sounded so much like Iris that I had to stay after to tell her so, see if she knew Iris. I knew Iris from a John Prine collection of duets, and had a different religious experience altogether when I heard her at the end of the Coens' True Grit. I had to Google Iris, so here I am, among all your beautiful, loving, like-hearted comments!
