I love how Billy Bragg resurrected these lyrics of Woody Guthrie in song. This time capsule of a song shows Woody's enlightened view of the Bergman - Rossellini affair as a love story and not the scandal that mainstream America perceived it to be. I recall hearing that Ed Sullivan vowed that he would never allow her to appear on his show as a result of their relationship and sadly, I recall my own father refer to Bergman as a whore.
