Definitely sounds like 1978 to me.

I will give you some hints, Roylett. Opening chords are D, F and G, played over a D in the bass. The chord played over the lyric "And I'm hanging on" is a C6/9, next chord is a B, then Em7.

Thanks for sharing. I've been mining some rare EJ stuff and this video was a great find. I also think this song is from the late 70's.

@RonnieFriend It's entirely possible that that he wrote the lyrics, although the lyrics could have been filled in by Osborne. I'm actually only familiar with one song that was written solely by Elton coming out of those '78 sessions.

Yes, very true! I hear it now that you mention it that way. Thanks for the insight! He did a lot of his own lyrics in the those days, too. "Flinstone Boy", etc. And most of A Single Man songs were EJ lyrics that Gary Osborne fixed up after. Do you think these lyrics might be Elton's? I'm listening to the song in new light now.... Thanx again GlitzPianoman!

It actually sounds like an outtake from A Single Man. His voice was extremely distinct in 1978, as it was it was in a sort of transition between his mid-'70s voice and the sound he would have through the first half of the '80s. The voice heard on this recording is strikingly similar to that heard on that record and the other songs that came out of those sessions, such as "I Cry at Night".

Sounds like something that could have been recorded during the Honky Chateau sessions. Cool song.

Reminds me a bit of some Blue Moves stuff, especially towards the end. Where on earth did you get this from? This and the BBC Sails are things I've wanted to hear for years!
