I had no idea that the song was written by Rudolf Friml, Herbert Stothart, Otto Harbach and Oscar Hammerstein II and that it dated to a 1920s operetta. I knew that Slim Whitman had recorded a hit version, but wow, does Ray Stevens do a masterful job on this old standard. My mom has a 45 RPM copy of this song that I recently converted to MP3, and I'm glad I did.

Heard this rendition by Ray today, what a beautiful arrangement. I didn't know Ray had those kind of pipes, he has fantastic range and a beautiful voice. This is soon going to be one of my favorite Doo Wop Songs. I haven't stopped playing it. It was recommended by someone while I was listening to another of his songs. So glad I found it.

Respond to this video... Another P.S. My little piece of heaven is Idle Hour Ranch in Troy, Ohio. This is an exotic animal rescue ministry. This is where Sam and Hanna, and many, many other animals live out their lives in peace with a large abundance of love. Hats off to Mr. and Mrs. Iddings who started the ranch and maintain it with such caring.

@bettyd1954 Betty: Have to share. Was able to spend a few minutes alone with Sam this AM. I got a slurp. Pretty sure it was a giraffe kiss. Also got to talk to Hanna, the dromedary. Some time past, she ran to the front of her enclosure, muscled her way through the males, started talking to me and talked for a very long time. When she was finished, she backed her way out of the group and went back to the back of the enclosure and continued doing her thing. I was in heaven this AM.
