I wish that whoever arranged the studio version here had NOT included the background chorus of singers. To me they detract from the intensely personal nature of this masterpiece; are totally unnecessary. Instead they should have recorded this masterpiece with only Hoyt and the single, male backup singer heard at key parts of this song. I've heard Hoyt perform this song with just himself and a single, male backup singer and it's SHEER PERFECTION!10 years ago

Stunning song full of poignant, beautiful, heartbreaking truth.It's a damn masterpiece, and my favourite of all of Axton'ssongs. It's too damn sad that most folks today only rememberHoyt Axton's lightweight stuff like "The No No Song" and "Joy To The World"when he wrote so many truly beautiful, poetic gems like this one.13 years ago
