Three things I wanna say:1) I sang this during my freshman year of college, and it was so much fun! Great piece!2) That same year our college went on a music tour (band went with the choir). The band hadn't heard this piece before, but after they did hear it they raved about it. They thought "Oh my Jesus" sounded like "Oh my Cheez-Its"... and one band member went so far as to buy a box of Cheez-Its and have the kids on the band bus sing about the Cheez-Its to this song. IT WAS HILARIOUS!!!3) Is it just me, or did the lady with the short red hair on the bottom left side of the right block of people wake up when the choir started the "Shout" verse? Take a look (2:11). Again, great piece :)

@Joe: I think one of the reasons endings on spirituals tend to be big is because it's often a finale, and they want to end with a "wow."

Just am not a fan of these beginning and ending rewrites...the original alto/tenor unison is haunting if done right. Not every spiritual needs to end on a big chord.

I'm singing this song with my choir, and I am singing the soprano obligato part, the higher one that hits the high C, it's so fun(: you all sang it beautifully

Very nicely done! I do not know the original. This was wonderful and very felt by the Spirit!

I wish the bass's solo after the first verse moved a little more. It was very monodynamic. With this song, the spirit needs to move, so how is the spirit going to mover is the words dont? Hypothetically speaking.
