Lyrics: Thanks to Sarah Hunt for some of this! :D

Thibodeaux and Fontaneaux, fishin' on the bayou.

Havin' a lot of fun in a little pirogue;

Along come an alligator, overturned the pirogue;

Fontaneaux swim, but Thibodeaux , no.

Thibodeaux, him say "Fontaneaux, help me!"

"This big gator's pretty hongry, I think!"

Big jaws a-snappin', Thibodeaux's a-slappin',

But Fontaneaux, him's already on the bank!

Fontaneaux, him say "Goodbye, Thibodeaux!"

"Me, I gotta go see a man about a crawfish!"

"I'm a brave man, but my feet don't know."

"J'ai pour mon allait, I'll see you while ago!"

Thibodeaux and Fontaneaux, down at the honky tonk.

Drink four or three beer, feelin' pretty good.

Along come Brousard, accidentally bump his arm;

Thibodeaux, him kindly undermis-stood.

Fontan climbed a stool, take a big swing and miss him,

Take another swing, miss him in the same place.

Up stepped Brousard's big, ugly bodyguard,

And hits Thibodeaux in the middle of the face!

Fontaneaux, him say "Goodbye, Thibodeaux!"

"Me, I gotta go cook a pot of fillet gumbo!"

"I'm a brave man, but my feet don't know."

"J'ai pour mon allait, I'll see you while ago!"

Thibodeaux and Fontaneaux, down at the Mardi Gras.

Find a pretty Cajun girl, pitch a little woo.

Everything was okiedoke, but them Cajuns didn't know

That Mrs. Thibodeaux was at the Mardi Gras too!

Thibodeaux bear an ol' kiss onto the elbow.

Would've gone higher, but her mask fall away;

There stands his own wife, with a big butcher knife!

Just about then, he hear Fontaneaux say,

Fontaneaux, him say "Goodbye, Thibodeaux!"

"Me, I gotta go see a man about a catfish!"

"I''d like to help you, friend, but you're runnin' too slow!"

"J'ai pour mon allait, I'll see you while ago!"

"J'ai pour mon allait, I'll see you while ago!" (3x)

It's true George Jones is no stranger to Cajun music. In fact, he even played with a Cajun band after coming back from the Marine Corps. It's also true that George Jones did tour with Jimmy C Newman and they were both members of The Louisiana Hayride earlier on before joining The Grand Ole Opry. It's quite possible that when George and Jimmy toured, Jimmy probably taught George a few French words and phraises. Sources tell me that George DOES listen to Cajun Music and is a big fan of it.

This is a clever little song about two Cajuns, Fontenot and Thibodeaux. Another name heard in the song is Broussard. This song, like Jambalaya, is a Cajun-flavored Country song. In this song, George uses the French phraise, "J'ai Faux M'en aller".(jay fo mon-a-lay), meaning "i have to go". As a Cajun myself, I'm proud that George was able to record such a song and use those words and say them so fluently.
