Bobby O. Played with Johhny Kidd and The Pirates in the 60,s a few times,Brilliant Group! The patch was false! he had a case-full of them! Mick Green was superb! best 3 piece group ever, and great guys too! take some beating!

I saw this band in the Morris dance hall Shrewsbury !963 -4 Cost 4shilling to get in.And when they started up they were so tight and crisp they blue you away.Made me want to play in a band. And i did so i started at 15 and im still playing at 66.Not a bad life just from seeing the Pirates that night. Wilko's favourite record.Probably the seminal guitar break.Mick would have been rock's top axe-man had he not joined the Dakotas at a time when Jeff,Jimmy,Eric,Alvin,TS,etc, were experimenting on the riffs for a coupla years later. When the Pirates regrouped,he walked it.RIP,Mick...& thanx!!.

One of my first pop memories is seeing this on Ready Steady Go!

A great loss to '60's pop music when Johnny was killed in a car crash in 1966. He would no doubt have gone on to do much greater things. This record was one of their best ever. Mick Green passed away in 2008.

you are spot on mate. I never saw the band but know the area you speak of it is god forsaken. What a place for a rock legend to die. It is not even recognised by the knuckle dragging locals.

The only southern band that could hold a candle to the northern beat groups at this time. Great stuff.
