Ikettes - Take another piece of my Heart 1971

Dancers of The Ike & Tina Turner Revue

Original by Erma Franklin in 1967

(Instrumental)

Didn't I make you feel

Like you were the only man

And didn't I give you everything

That a woman possibly can

I think of all the love I gave you

It wasn't enough

But now I'm gonna show you baby

that a woman can be tough

So come on, come on, come on, come on

And take it

Take another little piece of my heart now baby

You can break it

Break another little piece of my heart now baby

You can have it

Have another little piece of my heart now baby

You know you got it if it makes you feel good

Oh you're walking out on the street lookin' good

And you know deep down in your heart it just ain't right

You know you'll never never never hear me

When I was crying at night

Oh I tell myself that I can't stand the pain

But when you hold me in your loving arms I said it again

So come on, come on, come on, come on

And take it

Take another little piece of my heart now baby

You can break it

Break another little piece of my heart now honey

You can have it

Have another little piece of my heart now baby

You know you got it if it makes you feel good

Take it take another little piece of my heart now baby

You can break it

Break another piece of my heart now honey

You can have it

Have another little piece of my heart now baby

You know you got it if it makes you feel

wow. it seems all three ladies have passed on !! all three had voices jus like Tina ! rough raw contraltos and they were all fine as hell !! there wasnt a bad Ikette who didnt come up to Tina's level of talent and beauty, tho Im only familiar with the girls during the mid-60s / mid 70s she had some good women behind her but what made them were the VOICES!! never was there a Ikette who could not sing or dance! the sexiest of all the girl groups and they never had any hits nor were promoted !!

The songlist varied over the tours and personnel changes, and all in all there were several dozen Ikettes--Wikipeda has a list. There's an LP of the Ike and Tina Turner Soul Revue circa 1964 that features some Ikettes material, especially a balls to the wall version of The Love of My Man by Ikette Venetta Fields.

Hot damn! I think this just became my fav version of this great song. You can feel the gospel and R&B roots in the performance, and what a cookin' band. Ike may have had his issues, but, dang. I bet this was an amazing live show. I'll be forever jealous of my older brother, who was a a teen/college student during the mid/late sixties. He saw just about everyone perform live, from James Brown and Wilson Pickett to well, just about all of the great Rock acts, including the Beatles.

Their interpretation of "Piece of My Heart" is in keeping with the original. What's superior is that it's Ike Turner's arrangement, and the girls are not all "doped-up" like Janice, for sure!!!!

Fantastic posting- thanks! Comes just one year after Janis Joplin (who Tina met and performed with in New York) died. Was this a regular Ikette intro song ? I know they had a whole variety of songs they would perform

WHat do we care about their looks ? It's just about this great sound, if you talk about something else you just don't like music !

I am NOT going by the sound, but by their looks. The singer on the left certainly looks like a man to me.

The one on the left, the first singer, looks like a man.

I believe left to right names are Esther Jones, Jean Burks & Vera Hamilton. I know Vera lives in California. Anybody know anything about Esther & Jean ?
