On this day in 1970 {March 1st} "Come Together" by Ike and Tina Turner entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #57 and it spent 8 week on the Top 100...It reached #21 on Billboard's R&B Singles chart...In 1978 Aerosmith's covered version reached #23 on the Top 100...Of course it was an Beatle original; and on November 23rd, 1969 it peaked at #1 {for 1 week}...

Dont think it was Tina's intent to better the Beatles. It's simply her interpretation

Chic! Yeah, she would have. I can't get over how hot she is in this vid. Her and Ikettes would have made awesome muses in some kind of greek rock opera, lol

I can't stop watching this. Why wasn't Tina chosen to play Lucy in Sgt. Pepper the movie? I liked her as the Acid Queen in Tommy (of course), but she should have been given a much larger role in a rock opera and Lucy would have been perfect for her.

It's wordplay based on headlines he & Yoko were getting in the press at the time (mostly negative) for their "advertisements for peace." The point of the song is John saying for everybody to "come together" (i.e. give peace a chance) in spite of the fact that he & Yoko were clowns not to be taken seriously (according to the press).
