I honestly don't understand all of the whining from supposed altos. I am a PROUD alto, and I think this song has a PERFECT range for us! It goes from low F to a not-so-high E flat. That is classic contralto/mezzo-soprano range. (If you people want to hear a real soprano, search for "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" from The Magic Flute by Mozart). Go back and listen to Idina Menzel perform this at the Oscars--the low notes are barely audible. Part of that is the theatrics, but part of it is also that she just doesn't have them. Strut your stuff, altos--you can make this your own!
