First off, before I get lambasted: I love Idina! However, this is not her song. I can't put my finger on it, but her voice seems wrong, like it's too girlish or something. Anyway, she's no Elaine Paige. I agree different can be good when done right. This isn't the case.

Mentzel has a good Broadway voice. But the whooping and swooping of the voice to shout notes is limited and limiting. Ellis also erred to 'country' raucous rasps. Training would change their voices. They have their merits but not for a song like this.

This always struck me as a throwback to Benny and Bjorn's ABBA days - I can just imagine Agnetha and Frida harmonizing on this -even Tim Rice's lyrics have that style. I know that this is based upon I am an A - they just made it better for Chess.
