Just picked up the CD today. Unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn't sound like this. Its not bad, but it's not their greatest. Plagues is by far the heaviest track of the set, but after that it feels...eh? Democide and The Culling are pretty good, but as it goes on, the album starts having a more upbeat sound to it, not really reflecting the dark nature of the subject matter. I've noticed some other comments about the lyrics seeming to take precedence, too and I agree. I'm missing those intricate gallops.Also, wtf @ track 13? Anyone else know what I'm talking about?At least it's not a total letdown like Megadeth is turning into. This disciple will continue to remain on watch.Maybe another concept album like Horror Show? I've been an Iced Earth Fan since '96 this album from the two other tracks I've heard are not growing on me,feels like Shaffer is hidding behind Stu's vocals to make up for the lack of memorable riffage this time around... Seems to me like Shaffer is bored with his playing style but isn't pushing himself as a guitarist and this album is suffering for it. For anyone interested in Stu's previous band Into Eternity I highly recommend The Scattering Of Ashes with The Incurable Tragedy close behind.Riffs and odd time signatures that would make Chuck Schuldiner proud!10 years ago
