@witchman1 Well, Ian is indeed the original: He wrote the song. And I've loved his performance of it for many years, both live and recorded.

No diss to Ian... but this really makes me miss The Late Great Mick Ronson. Ronson's guitar work was the perfect compliment to Hunter's distinct vocal style. RIP.

@bucketsz ... it's really hard to" f" up a great song... Mott the Hoople was a band that really was a rock band ahead of their time... I'm so glad I was witness to an Ian Hunter concert...

Just goes to show that it's such a great tune even Great White couldn't ruin it.

I have met Ian Hunter and his wife Trudy a few times. What a great human being. Ian, God bless you for your persistance and hard work. I know you miss Mick, but life is life, you enjoy what you have while you have it. Ian, Please keep writing music, as you are truly one of a kind. We love you ! ! ! Erhardt

One thing about the 70's, most of the people I knew who liked music liked anything rock and roll or rock and roll adjacent. If it was good, it was good, Bowie to Zeppelin to Elton Johh - ok now I've gone too far - actually, check out the first album and Tumblewee Connection. You should probably stop there, but Yellow Brick Road has it's attractions, although the shelf life is short.

I actually like the Great White version as well, not as much as I like Ian's though. As far as I know that's the only song of theirs I do like. I could give a crap about how a band dresses or has a good time.

Wow, I've been hearing the album version since 70 whatever when I immediately ran out and bought it. I really like this version - amazed he's in such good shape. I thought he must have choked on his own vomit by now (70's joke - no offense intended)

This is the original song, Great White happened to record it and made it heavier. I prefer the Ian Hunter version much better! Do your homework before you open your mouth!
