ive heard this song before when i was a kid listening to basic (ie. authentic) rock bands like the Purps, i like the sarcasm that indeed religious folks are automaticaly hypocritical in that thinking that by doing "good works" they're buying their way to heaven -- which is absurd if you really get to know what real christianity is all about.

It present the concept of relativity in a very funny and clever way. Though the music is strongly related to the hard - blues because of the lyrics that reproduce a kind of opera it could be qualified of progressive

Oh sweet 80's I miss it badly. Im still listening Gillan, Rainbow, Motörhead, Uriah Heep etc vinyl LP's. That sound has something... and then came the oversaturated neon new age, rap, hiphop CD's and megacommercial music industry where the art of music buried under plasticy crap. But, things evolve. Except me and my stiff attitudes;)

That last verse ruins the song. I like the US version better without the last verse..

At the "Burned higher and higher and higher" part, Ian Gillan sounds like he's paying tribute to Arthur Brown.
