Opening track off of Ian Anderson's first solo album Walk Into Light.

Lyrics - It's hard to say I'm sorry. May we just forget about today. You see,

I fly by night.

I fly by night.

I laid my love beside the door and left you sleeping on the floor.

So long. I fly by night,

I fly by night. I fly by night. I fly by night.

And though you might think it's too bad of me

I have to leave you with used memories.

I have no stomach for the dawn. I feel I should be moving on and so

I fly by night.

Now lady luck's deserted me. The ghosts of love stand clear to see.

They also fly by night. They fly by night.

Strange figures in the dark. Did Cupid strike and leave his mark?

It seems his arrows fly by night.

They fly by night. Fly! Let's fly.

Let's fly by night. Let's fly by night. Let's fly by night.

This is a good song, but it's the point where Ian should have called it a day as a lead singer/performer and started farming his songs out to other singers. Having said that, I think 'Walk into Light'/'Under Wraps' (I always think of them as a double album) were Ian's last vital creative effort - bolstered in no small measure by Peter John Vettese.

Peter John Vettesse on synthesizer, that makes a big difference.

@TheZenRider1 1976 was "Year Zero" as far as punks were concerned. Rightly or wrongly, that's just what happened. Punk did rather throw the baby out with the bathwater, but if they hadn't it wouldn't have been punk ! Jethro Tull came back with an album "Too Old To Rock, Too Young To Die", which was quite witty.

@roddy76to86 There is no question that Tull were "quite good" and I am glad that you are not one who "lumps" them into the same category; but it has been done and it's just wrong. As I stated they were different, and I mean that on all fronts. Tull was definitely classic in with a Renaissance roots in some of the music and a lot of the lyrics. ELP was left field, even then. Emerson was pure chaos. Some of their lyrics were too. And not even close to Tull. But they had there place for some.

@TheZenRider1 The same catagory ? No chance, Tull were quite good, ELP were awful; punk's Anti-Christ !

@roddy76to86 No comparison! Ian/Tull are way too distinctive to rate against another band. Anderson paved the way for scores of concepts founded in rock, AFTER Tull stepped into the light. Of course, there is only one, and will always be only one sound as unique as Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson. The neat part about what you guys call "Old School" is that there were a lot of trailblazers that kicked ass, including Tull and ELP that you might lump into the same category but they were all ORIGINALS!

Some people didn't like this album when it came out because of the keyboards and such, but I loved it, and it sure sounds great today!

Being a huge Rush fan since I was around 13 and also always enjoying Jethro Tull / Ian Anderson music, I notice alot of parallels between Rush and Jethro Tull in terms of integrity, creativity, longevity, etc. Even album sales are similar. Tull changed with the times, like Rush...unlike other 70's bands like Styx, Journey, etc.

Great song, and a great album! A lot of Tull fans couldn't connect with this album because it was so different, but separate the two and the music, songs and playing are all original, and excellent.
