In all of Deadmau5's meme glory, I for some reason got into watching his "I normally do this on Sundays" video. Being amused, I decided to turn the tables some and do one of his recent tracks that haven't been butchered by fans or hipsters yet. This track is otherwise known as HR 8938 Cephei. Since it is Friday, (and a subject of a whole entirely different meme) I changed the date for even greater amusement. No party party party fun fun fun for me.

I mostly just took the chord progression with some of the idea tidbits like octave changes here and there, but I really modified it a lot to fit the chiptune sound in the likes of what the classic chiptunes really sounded like. (but with a modern twist. )

This is a real "chiptune" done the old fashioned way. None of those modular synthesizers allowed! (hint hint)

Info:

1. I used delay, because I wanted to conserve channel space, and I also did not want to waste time doing it artificially in pattern offsets and velocity changes. I may downsample all of the samples to make it even smaller, but I still did not go past the 256 kilobyte mark for the entire project and wanted the high quality render for here. Every other effect is pure hexadecimal based effect commands. Pretty much every single hit was programmed by hand note for note using a qwerty keyboard. (even though I have a motif and m-audio piece of crap 61 key axiom sitting right here, I wanted quite a bit of authenticity.)

2. I used a single cycle render of an Atari POKEY 4 bit sound, a triangle wave from a VST clone of an NES chip aliasing and all, and drums from Plogue Chipsounds which were pretty heavily EQed. (yeah, just shoot me already i've broken all the rules! I assure you that it will play just fine without all of this, I just wanted it to sound cool. :P) Two of the sounds were composed of cycles hand drawn by me with the mouse.

Renoise is used in the composition. (I really need to upload more stuff that's more of my normal music, such as with Ableton or whatever)

I would've liked to have done more with this such as I think the arp bass would've been a nice addition, but I think anything over six hours on a simple rendition/meme is pushing towards the "fanatic" status.

My mess of a soundcloud where I stick up random ideas is http://www.soundcloud.com/knobcore ---- Did I mention it is a mess?

@beastone2 The info has a pretty detailed description on how I made it and what I used. for tone generators.

Knobcore

@beastone2 It was not made in a vst, it was using a bunch of short samples.

Kool, but could use a little tightening, rhythmically. Best wishes.
